Simple Steps to Stop Aggressive Dog Behavior

May 13th, 2009

An aggressive dog is no laughing matter.  This problem may not seem too difficult when you first bring home your sweet little tiny puppy who is wholly dependent on you for everything.  However, those sweet growls and grumbles from your puppy are suddenly a great deal less appealing when your adult dog is snarling and snapping.

It is for precisely this reason that you should start dealing with aggressive dog behaviors as soon as you recognize them in your pet.  The longer you let the issue slide, the more time it has to develop into a dangerous problem.  It won’t necessarily be an easy process, but if you stick with it and you use the right strategies, you can turn that nasty biter into a loving family member.

At this point, it’s important to understand that trying to train an aggressive dog can be scary, even when you’re the owner.  If you feel that you cannot confidently handle your dog’s hostile behaviors then it might be a good idea to seek the help of an expert trainer who is experienced with canine behavior modification in reactive cases.

This may be the situation if your dog is large and quite vicious. Conversely, if your dog is smaller, if the dog aggression has not yet become so developed that you can’t handle it, or if you feel confident in your own safety with your dog, then you may be able to handle the issue yourself as long as you have the right instruction and techniques.

Begin by examining the types of circumstances that seem to be at the root of the aggressive dog actions.  Then, work to prevent those circumstances so that your dog can be rehabilitated in an environment that does not give him or her the urge to react.

Then, you can rehabilitate your dog in a way that gives your dog an alternative to violent or hostile behaviors.  This means that you will show your dog how to answer to commands such as “come”, “stay”, “sit”, “down”, and “no”, as well as to walk nicely next to you on a leash.  Having accomplished obedience training, you can continue by implementing anti dog aggression techniques through the communication and leadership skills you will have developed.

Naturally, it is impossible to eliminate all forms of aggressive dog behaviors in a day, but if you’re dedicated to making your pooch into a lovable pet, then your consistency and love will make all the difference.

Prevent or Stop Dog Digging in 5 Simple Steps

May 9th, 2009

Is your otherwise well-behaved dog digging your dream garden and ripping green grass to shreds?  Have you given up hope for backyard beauty while wondering what your dog is trying to unearth?  Have you started to think you may have a gopher in disguise as a pet rather than a dog?

If so, then you have a serious dog digging problem on your hands.  Fortunately, there is something that you can do to stop it.  With help, your lawn may be on the road to recovery before the winter hits again.

These are five steps proven to stop dog digging that not only improve dog behavior but also allow your lawn to come back.

  1. Find out why your dog feels so inclined to digging. For example, is he or she trying to create a place that is safer from the weather or is he or she just bored?
  2. Make time to engage in more activities with your dog. If you take the time to walk your dog frequently, and also to provide new and fun toys for them while outdoors, you can curb the behavior.
  3. Do all you can to spend more time with your dog. Many times, dog digging is a plea for attention. Although your dog knows that you’ll scold him or her for the behavior, negative attention is better than nothing at all.
  4. Mark off where you do not want your dog to dig. If there is a place in which your dog loves to dig the most, block it off; even just temporarily until the dog digging habit can be broken.  See what you have to stop the digging including wire mesh or bricks to lay over the area.
  5. Make the area unappealing. If your dog has a favorite digging spot, sprinkle red pepper on the spot to make him or her less interested in that zone. You can also add other ways to deter them such as making loud banging noises when your dog nears the area.

If you stick with these five proven stop dog digging steps, you can start enjoying a green and hole-less yard with your dog soon enough.

If you find yourself in the situation where no method seems to work, then your dog is a bit more problematic. Some dogs are more problematic than others and their behavior problems should always be addressed properly.

I was often challenged with my dog’s behavior, the dog digging was no different. I had to seek professional help one more time. Because of previous great experience I decided to test Secrets of Professional Dog Trainer. Once again I got the proof that there is no better dog training program out there.

I urge you check out my review of this amazing train a dog program, that has proven itself as the best solution for all dog behavior problems, every time.

Tired of Constant Noise? Stop Dog Barking Now!

May 7th, 2009

The easiest method to stop dog barking is focusing on prevention. It brings long term results.  Then again, that’s easier to say than to do.  If you can begin with your efforts to cut the noise from the moment that you bring your dog home on the very first day, then you’ll help your pooch develop the right habits from the very start.

Yet most of us can’t tell that there will be the need to stop dog barking until that sweet yappy puppy turns into a jet-engine impersonator.  Maybe you feel as though you’re on your last tether with the noise.  Maybe you’ve received complaints from your neighbors.  No matter the cause, you need to put a stop to it!

I did some research online about solutions to stop dog barking, but I wasn’t pleased with the information I got.  Nothing worked for me.  Finally I turned to a well know expert for dog behavior problems at dogproblems.com and I am so glad I did.

With the knowledge I gained it was easy to get my dog to listen and stop his bad habits.  The problem wasn’t only crazy barking, he tended to be dog aggressive and dominant.  And our lawn was always full of holes.  All this was gone in a matter of days after I started applying what I learned with Secrets of a Professional Dog Trainer.

Let me share just a little bit of the knowledge I gained.
Throughout your efforts to teach your pet to stop dog barking, you should use effective tips to help you along.  Always use positive reinforcement to train your dog, never hitting or otherwise hurting him or her, as nothing will be learned except fear and aggression.

  1. Find out the times when your dog is most likely to bark so that you can identify the root of the problem.  Do your neighbors tell you that your dog barks while you’re away?  He or she could be lonely.  Does the barking start as people walk past your home?  There may be a problem with fear, boredom, or a breed trait.
  2. With the root issue identified, try to deal with that problem as much as possible to help your pet to stop dog barking.  For example, your dog may feel less lonely if you spend more time together while you are at home.  Be calm and neutral whenever you go out or come home.  Leave the radio on so that it’s not completely silent in the house when you’re not there.
  3. Don’t allow the barking.  Whenever your dog barks, correct the action with the command word “quiet”.  Deepen your voice and say the command sternly.  Don’t shout at your dog, but instead try to use the same tone of voice that a dog would use when growling.

Don’t forget that you must always use positive reinforcements to train your dog to stop dog barking.  Using this method, you’ll let your dog know what you want from him or her, and you’ll have silence in your life once more.
